PROGRAM Residential
YEAR 2022 - present
Located in the King Neighborhood in NE Portland, Ernest Warren Jr. was developed by Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives and includes 40 permanent supportive housing units, along with offices for caseworkers, on-site property management, and spaces for community programming.
The project prioritizes seniors, many of whom have been displaced from Northeast Portland, and pairs deeply affordable housing with wraparound services to support long-term stability, health, and community connection.
Purposefully, the project restores dignity, prevents further displacement, and provides a permanent pathway out of homelessness.
Each floor includes a shared social space incorporating principles of trauma-informed, universal, and biophilic design. These shared social spaces are open to all residents and are intended to replicate the easy sociability provided by a neighborhood front porch. Each sunroom and porch allows groups to gather around a central table at the same time an individual could find a comfortable chair for quiet personal activity.
